Smart Community

A smart community connects the shared services of a residential area, such as water, energy, waste, irrigation and common-area climate, to one operations platform. Wireless sensors and meters report from villas, towers and public spaces, and BuildOT One gives the community operator one live view.

Many community services feed one platform, which turns the data into alerts, reports and work orders.

What does a smart community monitor?

UtilitiesWireless energy and water meters by building, so consumption and losses are visible.
LeaksLeak sensors and smart valves that flag and isolate water loss early.
WasteFill-level sensors that show which bins need collection.
LandscapeIrrigation and valve control linked to schedules.
Common areasClimate and air quality in lobbies, gyms and community halls.

Why wireless suits communities

A community spreads over a large area with many separate buildings. Running data cables between them is impractical. LoRaWAN sensors cover long distances with low power, so one gateway can serve many buildings, and battery devices fit existing villas and towers without works inside homes.

Dubai Holding is rolling out MachineSens monitoring across 39 communities and more than 300 buildings. Read the Dubai Holding case study and the residential and communities page.

Frequently asked questions

What is a smart community?

It is a residential area where shared services such as water, energy, waste and irrigation are monitored by sensors and managed from one platform.

Do smart community sensors need cabling between buildings?

No. LoRaWAN sensors send data over long distances to a gateway, so no cabling is needed between buildings.

Can residents' homes be included?

Meters and leak sensors can cover individual units where the operator manages them, while common areas are covered by the operator's own sensors.
