The Toilet Paper Level Sensor from MachineSens IoT is a compact sensor that tracks toilet paper roll levels using an infrared laser. It runs on 2x AA batteries and connects over LoRaWAN, feeding refill alerts to the BuildOT One platform for washrooms across UAE and GCC buildings.
| Specification | Detail |
|---|---|
| Measures | Roll level (infrared laser) |
| Connectivity | LoRaWAN (EU868) |
| Power | Battery powered, 2x AA |
| Platform | BuildOT One |
Which sensors make up a smart washroom?
| Signal | Sensor | What it measures | Power or rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paper | Toilet Paper Level Sensor | Roll level by infrared laser | 2x AA batteries |
| Soap | Soap Dispenser Level Sensor | Liquid level by capacitive sensing | Battery, 6V DC |
| Odor | Smart Odor Sensor | Amine and sulfur gas odors, temperature, humidity | Battery powered |
| Footfall | People Counting Sensor | Visits by mmWave radar | IP54 |
| Waste | Waste Bin Level Sensor | Fill level by ultrasonic sensing | IP68 |
All five connect over LoRaWAN and feed BuildOT One, so cleaning follows actual use.
What the Toilet Paper Level Sensor does
- Measures the roll. The infrared laser reads how much paper remains.
- Warns before empty. Cleaners get an alert while there is still time to restock.
- Targets service. Teams visit only the cubicles that need paper.
- Builds usage history. See which washrooms use the most paper and when.
Where it is used
Busy washrooms in malls, airports, offices, hospitals and event venues, where an empty dispenser quickly becomes a complaint.
Works with BuildOT One
Alerts become tasks in FM360. The sensor belongs to the Smart Washroom solution. Combine it with the Soap Dispenser Level Sensor and the People Counting Sensor to match restocking to footfall. For air quality, see the Smart Odor Sensor.
Frequently asked questions
Why use an infrared laser?
It reads the roll without touching it, so paper feeds normally.
What batteries does it use?
The Toilet Paper Level Sensor runs on two standard AA batteries.
Will it work with jumbo rolls?
Fit depends on the dispenser. Tell us the model and we will advise on placement.
